Baking cakes in the oven or microwave is popular. If you do not have access to any of these and still want to indulge in your favourite cake, then you can bake a cake on a gas stove. The resulting cake is similar to the oven or microwave-baked cake and is even more tender and soft to eat. However, it helps to know how to bake a cake on gas? So that you never run out of ideas to make special occasions cherishable.
Let’s see how to bake a cake on gas.
Step 1: You can use a ready-made cake mix. Or you can prepare the cake batter from scratch. Use the following ingredients.
All-purpose flour, eggs (if vegetarian, skip it), baking powder, baking soda, sugar (coconut sugar, molasses, or maple syrup), milk (yoghurt or coconut milk), vanilla extract, and cooking oil. Cocoa powder if baking a chocolate cake. Mix the dry ingredients with the wet until you get the desired consistency.
Step 2: Prepare the cake pans. Coat the cake pans with butter at the bottom and sides (depending upon the cakes you wish to bake; one, two, three), then dust with a pinch of all-purpose flour. Shake the pans so the sides are coated with flour. If you do not want to use oil or butter, you can line the pan with parchment paper.
Step 3: Carefully pour the batter into the prepared cake pan. Using a spatula, scrape every bit of the batter into the pan. If you are baking multiple cakes, evenly distribute the cake batter into the tins. Gently shake the pan side to side to spread the batter evenly.
Pro Tip: Gently tap the cake pan with batter against the slab to settle any air bubbles.
Step 4: Prepare the cooking pot. You can do this with a pot and steamer basket or cooking dish on top of it. Make sure the basket or the dish sits on top of the pot so that the bottom is flat.
Step 5: Place the pot on the gas stove, and pour water into the pot. Then place the pot dish or steamer basket on top. Pour out water as desired. Ensure the water doesn’t bubble out of the pot into the steamer.
Step 6: Cover the base of the basket/dish with dried beans and pebbles or place a cooking stand. Since we are using gas and boiling water for baking, now we must create a buffer between the dish and the cake pan.
Step 7: Cover the pot with a lid and let it heat for 5 minutes on high flame. It is similar to preheating the oven.
Preheating is essential for baking the cake evenly.
Step 8: Place the cake pan on top of the dried beans, stand or pebbles carefully. The pan should not touch the bottom as it will be too hot and overbake the cake.
Step 9: Take parchment paper slightly more significant than the pot lid. Place the paper first, and then cover the pot with the lid.
Step 10: Bake the cake on a medium flame for 30-45 minutes or until you can place a toothpick and it comes out clean. In between, rotate the cake pan for even baking but do not let the heat escape too much. Keep an eye on the cake. Some require more time while others less.
Step 11: When you are satisfied that the cake is well-baked, carefully remove the cake pan from the pot. Let it cool completely. Peel the parchment paper, and flip the cake back over. Cut and serve.
Note: If you do not have a pot or a cooking dish, don’t worry. Here’s how you can make the cake on gas with a cooker or Kadai.

Step 4: Place a pressure cooker/Kadai on the gas stove.
